Blog Post #2
The US has now set a speed limit for ships 65 feet and longer, that travel within 23 miles of the major mid-Atlantic ports. Their reasoning for this is to save the endangered species of the Whale. The new speed limit is 11.5miles per hour. They've done this because there are only 300-400 whale species left in the wild. From 1997-2001, ship strikes killed about two to three whales per year. Hopefully this will slow the rate of deaths for this endangered species.
